Dijon wine merchant and restaurateur Dr Wine also runs an activity reserved for a select group of connoisseurs of the very finest vintages: Le Cercle. For the past few weeks, Kathryn Smith has been in charge of running and developing this club, which brings together international allocates from the most exclusive estates. "This mission bridges the gap between my former job as an investment banker and my new life in Burgundy. As a graduate of the MBA Wine & Spirits Business and holder of the WSET level 4, I guide these very demanding customers in their quest for the rarest experiences. I also organize top-of-the-range events with the estates to welcome them in the most privileged conditions. The small team of 4 people and the great freedom we are given make for very pleasant working conditions".

Kathryn didn't hesitate to leave her native Canada for a career change that gave a business sense to her passion for wine. "Of all the MBAs around the world that could interest me, the School of Wine & Spirits Business had 2 advantages in my eyes. A human-sized, multicultural class, and a location at the heart of the world's most prestigious vineyards. I also really liked the mix of lecturers, from academic professors to professionals who are very involved in their profession.

Unlike her fellow students, Kathryn Smith chose to stay in Dijon after graduation. "I fell under the spell of the region and its people". Spellbound, but by no means satiated with learning. "After a further year's study to perfect my French at university and successfully prepare for my WSET level 4, I joined the Cité de la Gastronomie as Cellar Manager. At the head of a 15-strong team, I developed the events business and themed meetings. In particular, Japan Week and Greek wine tastings with a chef-in-residence made a lasting impression.

An expert in conviviality and networking, Kathryn has retained a strong bond with the school and its teachers. "I still enjoy talking to all those who contributed to my training and learning from them. The diversity of experiences and cultures, the DNA of the MBA, is a richness that can still be savored long afterwards! In particular, I try never to miss the 3ème Thursday research session. What's more, I've already been involved in helping students optimize their presentations in English, and I hope one day soon to be able to pass on the good vibes I feel in my new life.
