Kevin Jandard (BSB'18) : owner of the Domaine Descombe (Beaujolais).
Kevin Jandard's first life was in finance, but the family trope eventually caught up with him. "With my wife, we run the Domaine Descombe in Saint-Étienne des Oullières, in the heart of the Beaujolais region. I myself come from a family of winegrowers, but above all I'm driven by a genuine agro-ecological project". The estate minimizes ploughing and bans herbicides, experimenting with a wide range of crop combinations, including legumes sown directly into the vine rows. "We do a lot of testing, to identify the most interesting co-developments. We also plant or replant plant cover, fruit trees and hedges. The maturing of our wines is no exception, with a temperature-controlled cellar and a ban on inputs. "
This uncompromising commitment comes at a cost, as the estate gradually drops from a density of 10,000 vines per hectare to just 6,000. "This is where I benefit from the Mastère. It combines the fundamentals of business, marketing and entrepreneurship with a fantastic sharing of experience between the students. Some bring a wealth of knowledge of the wine world, others business know-how; and the mix is really very positive. Because our commitment to concrete, methodical action against climate change is also a business project. The idea is that everything we do should be both profitable and sustainable. What's more, we've developed a French and international clientele sensitive to this environmental and premium positioning.
Ready to pass on the reins? "For the moment, I'm 100% dedicated to the successful transformation of our estate. At the same time, I'm very proud to participate in the renewal of generations and visions of the world. As landowners, we can take concrete action to build a better world. "
